Bloemfontein - Violence perpetrated against women during the Anglo-Boer War has yet to be properly spoken about, and discussions on rape affidavits during the war can open a doorway to healing.
This is according to acclaimed poet, author and academic Antjie Krog, who gave a lecture at the University of the Free State on Tuesday as part of the third installment of the Vice-Chancellor’s Lecture Series on Trauma, Memory and Representations of the Past.
The lecture series is hosted by Prof Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela, Senior Research Professor in Trauma, Forgiveness, and Reconciliation Studies at the university.
Thus far, lectures by former Constitutional Court Judge, Albie Sachs and internationally-acclaimed composer and sound artist, Philip Miller have been delivered under different themes.
