Don Steenkamp's appeal to be moved | News Article

Kimberley - The appeal of 18-year-old Don Steenkamp, the Griekwastad boy found guilty of murder and rape, will not be heard in the Northern Cape High Court next week as planned, Beeld reported on Monday.

Instead, it would be referred to the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein on a date yet to be determined.

Steenkamp's case would have been heard on March 9 before a full bench.

Last year he was found guilty of murdering his parents Deon, 44, and Christel, 43, Steenkamp, and his sister Marthella, 14, on April 6, 2012.

Marthella was also raped.

He was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

This followed talks between the National Prosecuting Authority and his lawyers. According to the Children's Act a minor automatically had the right to appeal. At the time of the judgment and sentencing he was a minor.
