Johan Prinsloo sentenced this afternoon | News Article

Bloemfontein - Johan Prinsloo, who was convicted of high treason this morning, will be sentenced at 15:00 this afternoon.

The state and defence have addressed the Free State High Court on sentencing issues after Judge Mojalefa Rampai this morning found Johan Prinsloo guilty of high treason.

Prinsloo has also been convicted of a charge of illegal possession of ammunition.

Defence Advocate Johann Nel earlier placed on record various personal characteristics, ranging from the fact that Prinsloo employs about 70 people of various races, to details of numerous health concerns including a need for stroke related chronic medication.

He urged the judge to sentence in the interests of society and not to please the opinions of society.

State Advocate Torie Pretorius has meanwhile urged the judge to remember that although the group didn’t actually do anything, there would have been bloodshed if they had managed to secure mortars.
