Mahikeng - No jobs would be lost when Botshelo Water, servicing Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality in the North West, closes, Water Minister Nomvula Mokonyane said on Sunday.

"The Minister has assured officials of Botshelo Water that not a single one of them will be disadvantaged by the de-establishment of the water board. As such, there will be no job losses," Mokonyane's office said in a statement.

Mokonyane also assured residents in the area that their services would not be disrupted.

In a statement she said: “The Blue and Green Drop reports of the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality were a cause for concern, the department of water and sanitation will work hard towards the improvement of the delivery of better water quality and sanitation services".

A Cabinet decision to reduce the number of water boards from 14 to nine, in line with the national water review strategy, meant that Botshelo Water would close.

Botshelo Water would be supported by Rand Water Board until the end of September. Thereafter, Sedibeng Water and Magalies Water would take over its functions.
