Bloemfontein - Residents of Mangaung and the country at large are being urged to provide a motivation for Mangaung executive mayor Thabo Manyoni to be crowned the World Mayor of 2014.
Metro spokesperson Qondile Khedama says Manyoni is one of only two mayors from the African continent shortlisted for the prize, which is awarded every two years by the London-based City Mayor’s Foundation.
He says the metro is humbled by the nomination because it recognises mayors with the vision, passion and skills to facilitate world class cities.
The Metro has also congratulated Daniel Termont, Mayor of Mangaung’s European twin, the City of Ghent in Belgium, for making the 2014 shortlist.

DA leader Helen Zille received the World Mayor prize in 2008 when she was still mayor of Cape Town.
