Bloemfontein - The department of Home Affairs has once again called on citizens to check if they have duplicate ID numbers before the December 31 deadline.
Free State Home Affairs spokesperson, Bonakelo Mayekiso says duplicate ID numbers are a big problem that needs to be corrected.
He says that duplicate ID numbers can refer to one person with more than one ID and more than one person with the same ID number.
Mayekiso states that they don’t want any duplicate ID numbers, moving into the smart card age.
To check your ID number duplicate status you can sms the letter “D” and your ID number to 32551, go to the department’s website or visit any Home Affairs office.
