Free State tax fraudster sent to jail─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 08:53 Thu, 07 Oct 2021
A 43-year-old man from the Free State has been convicted and sentenced for contravening the Tax Administration Act.
Mothibi Ntabe appeared before the Bloemfontein Regional Court on Wednesday, where he was sentenced to eight years imprisonment, of which three years are suspended. He will be serving five years in prison. According to the Free Sate Hawks spokesperson, Christopher Singo, a preliminary probe by the South African Revenue Services (SARS) uncovered that Ntabe was involved in fraudulent activities that cost the receiver of revenue (SARS) more than a million rand between 2011 and 2014.
Singo says the matter was reported to the Hawks investigation team, based in Bloemfontein, and this led to Ntabe’s arrest on 6 December 2018. He says Ntabe appeared in court on several occasions prior to his recent conviction.
