UFS re-appoints Vice-Chancellor─── 15:15 Mon, 21 Jun 2021
The council of the University of the Free State has unanimously re-appointed Prof. Francis Petersen as the Rector and Vice-Chancellor.
According to the University of the Free State’s website, the decision was taken during the second virtual council meeting scheduled for the year on 18 June 2021.
Petersen is expected to serve his second term from 31 March 2022 until 1 April 2027. According to the Chairperson of the UFS council, Dr Willem Louw, Prof. Petersen’s first term was characterised by exceptional leadership, and the council has shown its appreciation for the work he has done up to date. He further states that the UFS has excelled in a number of key areas under his leadership.
“I am humbled and honoured by the expression of confidence in me; it is a privilege to continue leading one of the greatest universities in the country on its new journey. I will continue to do my utmost to build a strong institution that belongs to everyone, and want to thank our staff, students, and valued stakeholders for their continued support,” said Petersen.
According to the UFS’ website, his vision for his second term includes raising the external profile of UFS through alumni, foundations, donors, and strategic communication, amongst other things.
