FS MEC calls for peace at Lesotho border─── 15:14 Fri, 28 May 2021
The Free State MEC for Police, Roads, and Transport, Sam Mashinini, has called for peace following his visit to the HaRapitsi Farm at Zastron, bordering Lesotho, earlier on Friday.
“Unity, peace, and order must prevail to keep criminals at bay,” said Mashinini. His visit was to attend to his crime prevention and oversight responsibilities between the neighbouring countries, separated by a fence. Both countries were represented by law enforcement officers, the South African Home Affairs, and Lesotho’s Kingship.
The MEC addressed farmers and workers of both countries and mentioned the challenges of crime in his speech. He mentioned incidents allegedly taking place at Zastron. Some of the things that he spoke about included life stock theft, human trafficking, drug trafficking, and car hijackings.
Mashinini also spoke to farmers regarding the employment of foreign nationals (Basotho people) who do not have working permits. He stressed the issue of safety in Zastron and also encouraged law enforcement agencies to patrol that area.
