Liverpool one step from glory as Leicester are relegated─── MORGAN PIEK 08:27 Mon, 21 Apr 2025

Liverpool took a massive step towards a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title on Sunday evening, edging Leicester City 1-0 at the King Power Stadium.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, coming off the bench, netted the all-important winner in the 76th minute, latching onto a loose ball after a goalmouth scramble to seal the three points.
The goal couldn’t have come at a more critical time – not just for Liverpool’s title charge, but also for the player himself, with questions hanging over his future at the club as his contract runs down.

The result sees Liverpool surge to 79 points from 33 matches – now 13 clear of second-placed Arsenal, who still have a game in hand. The Reds could be crowned champions as early as Wednesday if Arsenal stumble against Crystal Palace, or they can seal the deal themselves with a win against Spurs on Sunday at Anfield.
Under Arne Slot’s leadership, Liverpool have been relentless this season, combining tactical discipline with attacking flair. Sunday’s narrow victory was a testament to their grit and depth, with substitutes once again making the difference in key moments.
While it was a night of jubilation for Liverpool fans, it marked heartbreak for Leicester. The defeat confirmed their relegation to the Championship, just one season after they clawed their way back into the Premier League.

The Foxes have managed only one win in their last 18 games and set a grim new record: nine consecutive home matches without a goal.
Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took over in December, acknowledged the disappointment and called for clarity about his future. He stressed the need to start rebuilding immediately, using the remainder of the season to prepare for life in the Championship.
But for Liverpool, the focus is now firmly on the finish line. With history within reach, the city, the fans, and the team can almost taste Premier League glory - and a return to the summit of English football.
In other results from Sunday, Wolverhampton Wanderers edged Manchester United 1-0 at Molineux, while Arsenal thrashed Ipswich 4-0 at Portman Road. Chelsea beat Fulham 2-1 in a London derby at Craven Cottage.
Saturday’s action saw Aston Villa hammer Newcastle 4-1 at Villa Park, and Manchester City ease past Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park. Brentford outgunned Brighton & Hove Albion 4-2, while West Ham and Southampton played to a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.
Crystal Palace and Bournemouth played out a goalless stalemate at Selhurst Park.
