The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed the date and venue for the rescheduled Nedbank Cup quarter-final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United.

The match was initially set to take place at Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville earlier in March but was called off at the last minute due to a scheduling conflict.

A FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifier between South Africa and Nigeria had been booked for the same day. While the junior international match was scheduled for the afternoon and the cup quarter-final for the evening, hosting two high-profile matches on the same field within hours of each other was not feasible. Player safety concerns and FIFA’s strict pitch condition regulations meant that the PSL had no choice but to postpone the fixture.

The rescheduled quarter-final will now take place on Friday, 28 March 2025, at the same venue.

It has been a frustrating Nedbank Cup campaign for Sekhukhune United, as this is not the first time one of their matches has been delayed. Their Round of 16 fixture was also left in limbo for an extended period due to the Royal AM saga.

The Round of 32 match between Royal AM and Milford FC was delayed, and after much back-and-forth, the PSL ultimately expelled Royal AM from the tournament, allowing Milford FC to advance and face Sekhukhune in the next round.

The PSL has now confirmed the new date for the Sundowns vs Sekhukhune quarter-final, with the winner progressing to the semi-finals.

“The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced the updated fixture details for the postponed Nedbank Cup quarter-final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United. The highly anticipated clash will now take place on Friday (28/3) at Lucas Moripe Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00.

“Spectators holding valid tickets from the postponed match must visit the verification booth on match day to receive a replacement ticket. However, those who opted for a refund will need to purchase a new ticket.”

The winner of the Sundowns vs Sekhukhune United quarter-final will face Kaizer Chiefs in the semi-finals. The other semi-final will see Orlando Pirates, the back-to-back defending champions, take on Marumo Gallants of Bloemfontein at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
