Gallants into CAF Confederations Cup semi-finals─── MORGAN PIEK 09:56 Mon, 01 May 2023
Marumo Gallants are into the semi-finals of the CAF Confederations Cup for the first time in their history after a win against Pyramids FC on Sunday at the Dobsonville Stadium.
Gallants advanced to the last four of the continental competition for the first following a 1-0 win over the second leg of the quarter-finals.
A week prior, Gallants and Pyraminds played to a 1-1 draw in Cairo after the Egyptian team equalised from a last-minute penalty.
On Sunday in Soweto a 39th minute goal by Celimpilo Ngema was enough for Gallants to advance with 2-1 aggregate over the two legs.
Gallants will face Young Africans from Tanzania in the semi-finals with the first leg being played on 10 May at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The other semi-final will be played between ASEC Mimosas (Ivory Coast) and USM Alger (Algeria).
Gallants are still locked in a big Premier Soccer League battle and a win on Wednesday 3 May against Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium should ensure their survival.
