Jubilation just exploded in the plenary hall as President Cyril Ramaphosa has been re-elected as ANC President at the ANC National Elective Conference at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.

Cyril Ramaphosa has been re-elected, beating Zweli Mkhize with 2 476 votes to 1 897 votes. The margin between Ramaphosa and Mkhize was over 500 votes. There were four spoilt ballots and seven abstentions.

In total, 4 384 votes were cast, with two confiscated ballots because those voters were caught taking photographs of their ballots and they were reported to the police. Upon realising that they may end up with criminal records, they offered to revoke their voting status, said former president Kgalema Motlanthe.

Paul Mashatile wins the ANC Deputy President vote and received 2 178 votes to Ronald Lamola's 315 and Oscar Mabuyane's 1 858.

The newly elected National Chairperson of the ANC is Gwede Mantashe. He won with 2 062 votes to David Masondo's 230 and Stanley Mathabatha's 2 018.

"Comrade Gwede Mantashe is duly elected as national chairperson," Motlanthe announced to huge cheers.

Fikile Mbalula was elected as the ANC's Secretary-General (SG), with 1 692 votes to Phumulo Masualle's 1 590 and Mdumiseni Ntuli's 1 080.

Nomvula Mokonyane was announced as the ANC's first Deputy Secretary-General, who won with 2 195 votes, compared to Tina Joemat-Pettersson's 2 145 votes.

Maropene Ramokgopa defeats Ronalda Nolumango and is elected elected as the second Deputy Secretary-General by defeating Nolumango with 2373 votes to 1948.

Gwen Ramokgopa is elected as ANC Treasurer-General with 1 809 votes, and defeated Pule Mabe, who had 1 652 votes, and Bejani Chauke who had 590 votes. Mzwandile Masina, who withdrew from the race. received 281 votes.

According to News24's Adriaan Basson, this is a clean sweep for the Ramaphosa slate — Ramaphosa, Mantashe and Mbalula managed to consolidate enough votes to beat a disorganised Mkhize-led alliance. Ironically, it was the Mkhize's camp's disorganisation that cost them, especially the position of SG.
