Blitzboks target positive start against New Zealand─── MORGAN PIEK 09:13 Fri, 21 Feb 2025

The Blitzboks will be aiming to get off to a flying start at the Vancouver Sevens in Canada on Friday evening when they take on New Zealand in Pool B.
South Africa finds themselves in a tough group, making a strong start crucial as they will also need to face Australia and Ireland to progress to the knockout rounds.
Coach Philip Snyman emphasised that their entire campaign in Canada hinges on Friday night’s result against New Zealand.
“We’ve done our homework on our opponents, but of course, execution is key to success,” said Snyman.
“One part is done; now it’s up to the players to go out there and do the job.”
“They’ve settled in well, but nothing has changed in terms of our plan to introduce new players and rotate others. When injuries occur, we simply adapt accordingly,” he added.
“We aim to start the opening match of each tournament with the same team that played the last two matches of the previous one to build momentum and stability. I’m confident this approach will work well for us again.

“New Zealand didn’t perform well in Perth, so they’ll be hurting and eager for a strong comeback. But if we start well against them, it will set the tone for the rest of the tournament.
“Ireland are another dangerous side that always play well against us, while Australia beat us in the Perth semi-finals. We’d love to get one back over them.”
Friday night’s clash between South Africa and New Zealand kicks off at 20:02, while the Blitzboks take on Ireland on Saturday morning at 03:29.
