The Springbok Sevens teams finally broke their title drought in their home tournament, the Cape Town 7’s in December and this has moved them up to fourth overall on the Sevens World Series table. 

In addition to claiming silverware, the Blitzboks will see the return of their captain Selvyn Davids, as well as Ryan Oosthuizen and Ronald Brown, as they target back-to-back titles.

The tournament in Perth is the third leg of the series, and it will be the first for 2025, all the teams will be seeking to kick off the new year on a high note.

The former Toyota Cheetahs centre, David Brits, who made his Blitzboks debut in Perth a year ago, said there is a positive vibe in the camp, and the win in the Mother City did them a world of good.

“It’s exciting indeed – we had a good performance in our last tournament by winning in Cape Town and although we put that behind us, we now know what can be done if we apply ourselves properly,” said Brits, who scored the match-winning try in the final against France in the Mother City.

“Perth is a great venue, it is a fast and hard field. It is quite hot out here and the support for us is good. We are used to training in the heat back home, so that is no problem, we prefer a fast game as well, so it all adds up for us.”

The Blitzboks are in a tough pool for the tournament Down Under and they will have to contend with the USA, as well as the hosts Australia and the ever-unpredictable Argentina.

The Blitzboks will get their Perth campaign underway at 08:23 on Friday morning when they tackle the USA.
