The team from Johannesburg will be travelling to Cape Town today in fifth place on the URC standings with four wins out of six and 19 points.

The Lions are feeling confident heading into their United Rugby Championship match against the Stormers in Cape Town on Saturday, after ending a three-game losing streak with a strong win over Pau last weekend.

Lions assistant coach Jaque Fourie says that even though their final match of the year will be played away from home, the Lions will be eager to rectify a poor record against the men from Cape Town.

“We’re back to winning ways again. We want to keep improving in the URC and just get back to winning ways again in URC. So yeah, it’s very important for us to start well this weekend,” he said.

Fourie says they have a set game plan for their URC match against the Stormers on Saturday and they hope the conditions at DHL Stadium will allow them to play the game they want to play.

‘Win over Pau may give them the edge’

The Lions lost against Leinster in Limerick in their last URC game and will look to improve their poor record against the Stormers in the competition.

The Lions last beat the Stormers in the 2021/22 season but have not been able to win a match in the subsequent five matches. However, their win over Pau may give them the edge.

Saturday’s match at the DHL Stadium will kick off at 15:45.
