“It’s a massive honour and achievement for me to be able to play for the Cheetahs. It was my dream growing up. I’m very grateful for this time in my career and my life.”

The Toyota Cheetahs scrumhalf, Rewan Kruger, is set to reach a special milestone on Friday (2/8) when they tackle the Blue Bulls in Bloemfontein in the Currie Cup.

Kruger, who was the captain against the Griffons on Welkom last week will hand the leadership role back to Victor Sekekete, but he is set for his 50th game for the Cheetahs. The live-wire loose-forward, Daniel Maartens, should he play, will also hit a half-ton for the Cheetahs.

Kruger told OFM Sport that he will be special to reach the milestone. “I was born in Bloemfontein and I grew up here. I’ve spent my whole life and career in the city,” said Kruger.

The former Junior Springbok added that playing second fiddle to the legendary Ruan Pienaar over the past few years has taught him a lot, and he is grateful to have learned from a player of the Springboks calibre.

“Obviously with Pine and being his understudy, he taught me a lot, so I can just be grateful to him as well. I’m definitely enjoying more time on the pitch, but that’s the way you grow. I’m just enjoying my time.”

Friday’s match at the Toyota Stadium will kick off at 17:00.
