The Blitzboks will have to win their pool match against Ireland tonight to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Vancouver 7’s tournament.

Sandile Ngcobo’s team started their campaign off on a high note with a convincing 22 – 12 win over New Zealand, with Selvyn Davids scoring two tries.

A lackluster performance against Great Brittain saw them lose by 17 – 12.  The Blitzboks did, however, score a bonus point, which will stand them in good stead when they face the team in green tonight.  Ireland will come out guns blazing and will be trying to get their first win in the tournament.

After their first two pool matches, 12th-ranked Great Brittain tops the pool table with South Africa in second place. New Zealand beat Ireland and sits in third place with Ireland at the bottom with no wins to their name yet.

In other pool matches Argentina, who is currently in first place in the overall standings also top the Pool A table after wins over Canada and Spain. The other team in Pool A is Fiji, who also achieved two from two in their pool matches.  Series leaders Argentina and Fiji will face off tonight to set a pool decider.

Pool B is topped by France after wins over Samoa and the United States.   The fourth team in Pool B is Australia, who looked rusty and could not secure any wins so far in the competition, losing both to Samoa and the USA.
