Griffons geared for historic match in Cape Town─── MORGAN PIEK 07:46 Thu, 06 Apr 2023
The Griffons are set to become the first team in the union's history to play a Currie Cup match at the Cape Town Stadium when they face Western Province on Saturday.
The Griffons are in the Mother City already and they are quite confident ahead of the game following their win over the Bulls in Welkom during round three of the competition.
With the Griffons being back in the Premier Division for the first time in more than 20-years, it will be their first time at the stadium built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Recently, Province moved from Newlands to make the stadium their new home.
The Griffons scrumhalf, Jaywinn Juries, told OFM Sport that the players are excited.
“Playing in the Cape Town Stadium is a huge privilege for us,” said Juries.
“All the players in the team will be playing in the stadium for the first time.
“It's going to be a different experience and all the guys are making jokes about how slippery the pitch is. They reckon that we are all going to have to play with longer studs on our boots.
“The guys are already setting themselves up for the game.”
Saturday’s game between Province and the Purple People Eaters kicks off at 20:30.
