Olivier set to miss Bulls clash─── MORGAN PIEK 08:38 Wed, 22 Mar 2023
The Toyota Cheetahs loose-forward, Friedle Olivier, is set to miss Friday’s Currie Cup clash against the Bulls in Bloemfontein.
Olivier sprained his ankle during the second half of Sunday’s 52-12 win over the Griffons in Welkom during round two.
The player has been one of the Cheetahs' star performers since joining the union last year and his absence will be a blow.
Olivier told OFM Sport that he will go for an MRI scan on Wednesday and a call will be made on his availability to travel to France for the European Challenge Cup game against Toulon.
“We are going for an MRI scan on Wednesday to be 100% of what is happening," said the versatile player.
“I am out for this weekend against the Bulls.
“I understand correctly, if the scans are clear, all is well and the recovery gets on quick enough and the swelling settles, they will make a call about me in the coming week.”
The Cheetahs are in a very fortunate position where they have several fit and in-form loose-forwards such as Gideon van der Merwe, Andisa Nstila, Jeandré Rudolph and Daniel Maartens to choose from, while they also have the likes of Oupa Mohoje.
Friday’s game between the Cheetahs and the Bulls at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 17:05.
