Boks back Dweba for Adelaide Test─── MORGAN PIEK 09:51 Wed, 24 Aug 2022
The Springboks back Joseph Dweba to start at hooker on Saturday when they face the Wallabies in Adelaide in round three of the Rugby Championship.
Dweba was subbed 30 minutes into the recent 35-23 defeat to the All Blacks in Johannesburg.
It was expected that the seasoned Malcolm Marx would start the Test Down Under, however, the former Cheetah, Dweba, once again cracked the nob.
The Springboks forwards coach, Deon Davids, said that Dweba cannot be judged on one performance.
“We're glad for the opportunity that Dweba got in the Test against the All Blacks in Johannesburg.
“When you look at the contribution he makes in different departments, that is as important for us just as throwing, scrummaging or kicking is important.
“If you look at these games and the pressure situations, a hooker will always be in a situation where they make a loose throw here and there.
“We're just glad he got an opportunity to play against such a quality side in such pressure conditions and do well.
“That's the reason we are looking forward to him getting another opportunity to build his experience against great teams."
Saturday’s Test between the Wallabies and Springboks at the Adelaide Oval gets underway at 7:30am.
