The Stormers have been dealt a massive blow ahead of their United Rugby Championship game against the Sharks in Durban.
The lock and co-captain of the team, Salmaan Moerat, has been ruled out for an extended period of time after suffering an MCL injury during their 30-26 win over the Bulls.
The Stormers coach, John Dobson, confirmed that his star second-row can be out for at least six weeks.
"We scanned Salmaan on Monday. We thought after the game he'd be okay, but he's got a bit of damage to his MCL.
“I'd expect him to be out for a reasonably extended period of at least six weeks to eight weeks. The injury happened early in the second half, maybe around about the 50th minute.
“We strapped his knee and then he felt a bit of weakness. It is an MCL and at worst it's a grade two, so there will not be a surgical intervention required.
“He is one of those players who beats his schedule when he returns, so we are hoping to get him back a bit before that.”
Saturday’s match between the Sharks and the Stormers at Kings’ Park in Durban kicks off at 17:05. Meanwhile, at 15:00 it’s Jukskei derby at Ellis Park with the Lions up against the Bulls.
