The tighthead prop, Beertjie van Vuuren, has reported for duty at the Toyota Free State Cheetahs and after undergoing his Covid-19 tests he started training with the team on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old Currie Cup winner is with the Cheetahs until the end of next month as cover in the much-depleted tighthead department.

Van Vuuren told OFM Sport that at this stage he is not focusing on a long-term contract.

“Today (Wednesday) was the first day that I trained with the guys again and got rid of the rustiness and it's great to be back.

“I definitely left the Cheetahs with good memories that will stay with more for many years. It's here where everything started for my senior career and the Cheetahs will always have a special place in my heart.

“Regarding a contract, I told the coach that we must just take it one day at a time. My biggest focus at the moment is to get back onto the field, and with the certainty here I asked if you could just take it easy for now and see how things pan out.

“I just want to get back onto the field and play some ruggas before we can readdress a contract.”

Meanwhile, Hawies Fourie, will be naming his side on Thursday morning to face the Lions on Saturday.

This match at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein kicks off at 16:30.
