Beaumont backs New Zealand Rugby─── MORGAN PIEK 08:28 Thu, 30 Jul 2020
The chairman of World Rugby, Bill Beaumont, has come out in support of New Zealand Rugby’s plans to form a breakaway Super Rugby tournament which will feature Pacific Island teams at the expense of South African teams.
The knock-on effect if this proposed tournament should go ahead, will mean that the South African franchises will move north, while the Toyota Cheetahs and the Southern Kings will more than likely be dropped from the Guinness PRO14.
In an interview with the New Zealand rugby show, Breakdown, Beaumont, suggested that forming a breakaway competition which includes teams like Fiji is the way of the future.
At this stage, there is still a lot of uncertainty over the future of the Jaguares from Argentina as well.
