The Blues will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the Super Rugby Aotearoa table this weekend when they host the Highlanders in Auckland.

During the first two rounds, the Blues beat the Hurricanes 30-20 and the Chiefs 24-12. The Highlanders in their turn beat the Chiefs 28-27 during round one but enjoyed a bye last week.

Eden Park kicks off at 9:05 on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, the 10-time Super Rugby champions, the Crusaders will have to do without their captain, Scott Barrett, for the remainder of the series. Barrett has sustained a toe injury which has ruled him out for 8 weeks.

This news was confirmed by the Crusaders on Wednesday morning.

“Crusaders Captain Scott Barrett sustained a significant injury to the structures supporting his big toe, while playing in the Crusaders internal game on Saturday 13 June.

“After consultation with a foot specialist, it has been determined that Scott will miss the remainder of the Investec Super Rugby Aotearoa competition to undergo surgery and allow sufficient time to recover. Exact return to play dates are uncertain at this stage.

“Alex Ainley has joined the Crusaders squad as injury cover for the competition, and Codie Taylor will take over the captaincy of the side for the remainder of the season.

“Scott's leadership has been a massive part of the 2020 Crusade, so it's great to know he'll remain around the squad for the rest of the season.  We wish him a speedy recovery.”

The Crusaders tackle the Chiefs at Orangetheory Stadium on Sunday morning with kick-off at 5:35.  The Hurricanes have a third-round bye.
