The Tafel Lager Griquas are relishing the opportunity to return to the training field after months of frustrations.
The Peacock Blues were meant to be defending their SuperSport Rugby Challenge title they won last year, however, this was derailed due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
Since 18 March there has been no rugby played or practised in the country after SA Rugby made the call to suspend the sport.
New Griquas coach, Scott Mathie, told OFM Sport that it has been a frustrating time, however, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
“We are very pleased to be able to start the process of returning to training. We are busy implementing all the government required protocols to ensure a safe environment when the players are able to return.
Although this year has been frustrating for all, there is some hope on the horizon.
“We are just awaiting the final clarifications from government and SARU in regards to this process and we look forward to welcoming back the players in the near future”.
Earlier in the year, SA Rugby confirmed that they would like to still present the SSRC, but there are also indications that the Griquas will be included in a new eight-team domestic tournament fill which will also feature the Super Rugby and PRO14 franchises.
