The Tafel Lager Griquas are feeling well relaxed ahead of Saturday’s big SuperSport Rugby Challenge semi-final against the Toyota Free State XV.
With a lot of the hard work done to reach the semi-finals, there is not much more a team can do other than fine-tune heading into a knocked match, and hence the side from Northern Cape adopted a somewhat unorthodox approach, by having a relaxed week.
Injuries and flu has been a major concern for the Griquas and on Tuesday only 21 players were able to train.
The Peacock Blues see the return of the Namibian international Damien Stevens who will play off the bench in the place of the injured Louis Venter.
Upfront, De Wet Kruger, starts at flank in the place of the Kevin Kaba who sustained an ankle injury during their 51-22 win over the Boland Cavaliers last week.
Kaba’s injury has also sees the team name, Jono van Rensburg, who normally plays in the second-row, as a loose-forward substitute.
The Griquas coach, Peter Engeldow, told OFM Sport that the best disciplined team will win the game.
“Niel Jordaan was speaking about it and we had a similar penalty count as they did.
“We have addressed our areas where we have conceded penalties, and obviously at this stage in the competition penalties are vital.
“At the same time we don’t want to inhibit or change too much of what has been successful for us.
“A little bit more discipline and patience and more importantly, I think the set-piece will determine the outcome of the game.”
Saturday afternoon’s semi-final at Tafel Lager Park in Kimberley kicks off at 15:00.
