Pukke come out tops in Potch─── ADRIAN BOTHA 09:45 Tue, 20 Feb 2018

The North West University Pukke bounced back from last week’s loss to UCT by claiming a nail-biting 15-18 Varsity Cup victory over the University of Johannesburg in Potchefstroom on Monday.
The Pukke crossed the whitewash on two occasions courtesy of Evardi Boshoff and Dean Gordon, similar to the two tries ran in by UJ but the difference proved to be with the boot as the Pukke’s Schalk Hugo slotted one more penalty conversion than the visitors.
The win sees Pukke in 5th while the University of the Free State Shimlas in their turn secured a top three spot on the Varsity Cup log after a 32-27 victory over the University of Cape Town Ikeys in Cape Town.
It was a tough day for the CUT Ixias as they were demolished 75-12 by the University of Stellenbosch Maties who crossed the try line a total of nine times at the Danie Craven stadion.
In the day's other Varsity Cup fixture, the Nelson Mandela University Madibaz came up short in front of an expectant home crowd at the NMU Stadium as they suffered a 29-32 loss to Wits.
