Nick Mallet still gunning for England job─── 10:12 Mon, 19 Mar 2012
Stuart Lancaster will face competition from Nick Mallett for the job of England head coach as the South African is determined to complete the interview process.
Shortly after the national team completed an impressive RBS Six Nations campaign under Lancaster with a resounding 30 - 9 victory over Ireland, Mallett appeared ready to concede defeat. Speaking on TV in South Africa, the former Springboks coach said: “You can’t see the RFU wanting to change a coach when you look at the team and how happy they are. It will take a brave CEO to replace Stuart Lancaster.”
However, it is understood the Hertfordshire-born 55-year-old still craves the chance to coach England and is determined to stake his claim, despite the surge of support for Lancaster within the union and the domestic game at large.
It is believed the two men will be interviewed in the latter part of this week and Mallett will make his pitch for the job based on a long-standing pedigree of success in elite rugby at both Test and club level.
