Buffalo bull Inala already a recognised brand─── MOEKETSI MOGOTSI 16:48 Mon, 19 Sep 2016
Thabazimbi - A buffalo bull that sold for R168-million last week has already become a brand name that will continue to generate hype and attention over the next 10 to 15 years.
This is according to the CEO of Thaba Tholo Game Reserve Rubin Els, who says the buffalo bull Inala was the main attraction on the catalogue for the game reserve’s eighth annual auction on Friday.
He says they have been receiving offers for Inala since he was spotted as an exceptional young bull while he was part of a free roaming herd in 2011.
He says they took some good photographs of the bull and these caught the attention of the industry:
“Obviously our clients saw the photographs over the years and as such he got quite a bit of exposure to the industry. The name Inala and the brand was actually built over many, many years.
“So when we decided early in this year that we would actually sell him, there was an active marketing campaign to say to the people out there that Inala would be on auction this year.”
Els says the eight to nine year old bull fetched the huge price tag because of special features such as horn size, as well as his high Safari Club International (SCI) score of 136,5.
His horn spread is 51 and 3/8 inches and is the third largest in South Africa.
