Scuba-diver seriously injured after shark attack─── 17:12 Tue, 28 Jun 2011

Durban - A scuba-diver was attacked by a shark on the South Coast. Emergency services say the man, a 22-year old research diver from the United States was attacked this morning at Umkomaas. It is believed that there was sardine activity in the area at the time. Sardine shoals are usually accompanied by dozens of sharks and other big game fish. Netcare 911's Chris Botha says the shark grabbed the man's leg as he swam about 5-kilometres off shore, at Aliwal Shoals. According to figures from the KZN Sharks Board, the province sees an average of a single serious shark injury every year.
