360 swim 7.5 km from Robben Island─── 08:20 Sun, 02 May 2010

Blouberg - 360 extreme swimmers will dive off Robben Island today and race to Blouberg for a 7.5 kilometre swim. They are participating in one of the most extreme sea swim races in the world - the Cadiz Freedom Swim which raises funds for disabled learners at Vista Nova School. The swimmers will brave icy water of around 12 degrees, hypothermia, sharks and other marine life. Among the competitors is shark attack survivor and champion disabled swimmer, Achmat Hassiem. Justice minister Jeff Radebe will be at the start at Robben Island and provincial ministers of Finance Alan Winde, Sport, Sakkie Jenner and Safety, Lennit Max are also attending. Premier Helen Zille will be at the awards ceremony after the race. The race is expected to start at 10:00.
