Johannesburg police officer arrested after high-speed chase─── 12:47 Sun, 03 Jan 2010

A Johannesburg metro police officer was arrested for driving drunk after a high-speed car chase which ended in a collision. Chief superintendent Wayne Minnaar says the officer was arrested last night by the Internal Affairs Unit after he crashed his private car into a parked car in Rosettenville. Members of the Internal Affairs Unit spotted the stationary car at a green traffic light close to midnight last night. They then noticed the driver slumped over the wheel. When the unit approached the car, the driver woke up and sped away. A high-speed chase followed until the fleeing officer crashed his car into the stationary vehicle. A breathalyser test showed his blood alcohol volume three times over the legal limit. Minnaar says a disciplinary investigation will follow.
