Gauteng police placed on ‘high alert’ ahead of #ANC54 election results | News Article

The Gauteng police commissioner has announced that police will be placed on "high alert" pending the outcome of the ANC election results.

Lieutenant General Deliwe Suzan de Lange in a statement issued on Sunday said that operational personnel are expected to remain ready for deployment to sustain any eventualities pending the outcome of the elective process.

De Lange said officers will be deployed to manage places where celebrations will take place. They will also be deployed to "manage any contingency" and "any eventualities".

"All commanders must inform all members to remain operationally prepared to deploy at any given time," she said.

The announcement of the next leader of the ANC and the rest of the top 6 is expected to take place on Monday morning.

The credential process for the 54th elective conference was delayed from its scheduled time on Saturday afternoon following the outcomes of court cases in the North West, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal, the party's deputy secretary general Jessie Duarte said on Sunday.

ANC deputy secretary general, Jessie Duarte, held an impromptu press briefing following the adoption of credentials.

She said there were no inflated numbers of delegates during the adoption of credentials for the conference.

"Credentials is not just about nodding your head, it's [about] checking thoroughly... There was no inflation whatsoever," she said.
