Cornelis Jacob Langenhoven, SA author and writer of the words of Die Stem van Suid-Afrika (The Call of South Africa), died at his home 'Arbeidsgenot' in Oudtshoorn.

Die Stem, and its translation The Call, was the only official national anthem of SA from 2 May 1957 to 20 April 1994, when Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika was also recognised as national anthem.

Since 10 October 1997, a shortened, combined version of Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika and The Call of South Africa is now the national anthem of South Africa.
