Port Elizabeth – Pizza franchise Debonairs will be investigating the identity of the 'racist' driver who bumped into one of its employees in Port Elizabeth last week.

Debonairs said on Monday it wants to pursue legal action against the driver. A video of the incident, reportedly filmed by the driver, went viral at the weekend.

In the footage a man, speaking Afrikaans, appears to intentionally run his vehicle into a black pizza delivery man on a motorcycle. He is heard calling the delivery man a "pizza kaffir".

According to Debonairs spokesperson, Darren Hele, the delivery man is employed by a franchise owner at Newton Park, Port Elizabeth. The incident took place in Cape Road, Newton Park.

"The restaurant manager was made aware of what the driver believed at the time to be a bumper bashing and encouraged him to lay charges. However, the driver chose not to."

Hele said the delivery driver was in fact not knocked over as the clip suggests, but rather bumped by the vehicle.

"The driver was unhurt and the bike suffered minor damage.

"The company will be instituting an investigation into the identity of the driver of the motor vehicle and will be pursuing appropriate legal action against him."
