M-Net apologises to Lotz family | News Article

Cape Town - M-Net has apologised to the parents of murdered Stellenbosch student Inge Lotz for broadcasting a blurred image of her dead body in 2008, the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) said on Friday.

M-Net CEO Yolisa Phale met Juanita and Professor Jan Lotz on Thursday, said SAHRC spokesman Isaac Mangena.

"At the meeting Ms Phahle expressed her unconditional apologies as well as those of M-Net to the Lotzes."

The Lotzes accepted her apology.

Jan Lotz first complained to the SAHRC after the initial broadcast on Carte Blanche, on M-Net, on September 14, 2008.

The broadcast in 2008 included an overview of the murder, which still remains unsolved.

Inge's body was found in the lounge of her Stellenbosch flat in March 2005. She had serious head injuries, inflicted with a blunt object, and stab wounds to her chest. Her boyfriend Fred van der Vyfer was found not guilty of her murder.

In a final report in November, the SAHRC ruled that M-Net was in breach of the subscription broadcasting code and one of its recommendations was that the broadcaster apologise to the Lotz family.
