Johannesburg - The trial of Czech businessman Radovan Krejcir and five others implicated in the kidnapping and attempted murder of an East Rand man will begin in the High Court in Johannesburg on Monday.

Krejcir is charged with dealing in drugs, attempted murder and kidnapping, together with Desai Luphondo, Samuel Modise Maropeng, George Jeff Nthoroane, Jan Lefu Mofokeng and Siboniso Miya.

Luphondo, Maropeng, Nthoroane and Mofokeng were all released on R5000 bail in December.

Miya and Krejcir remain in custody. Lawyers for the Czech businessman have launched four unsuccessful bids for his release on bail.

In another case, Krejcir also faces a charge of murder, along with Miya, police sergeant Nandi Nkosi, and Nkanyiso Mafunda in connection with the death of Phumlani Ncube in July last year.

Krejcir, along with Miya, Zoduma Biyela, Jacob Nare, Mafunda, Nkosi, and Owen Serero are also alleged to have been part of a group that conspired to kill police colonel Nkosana Ximba and investigator Paul O'Sullivan, who had investigated Krejcir.
