Old ID book must be handed in when applying for Smart ID─── 16:17 Tue, 04 Feb 2014

Johannesburg - Home Affairs says South Africans applying for a new Smart ID card will have to hand in their old ID books when they do so.
The Department says it's had problems with people who've tried to make their applications without their old IDs. Only people over 60 or those who have never had a bar-coded ID are currently eligible for Smart ID cards.
Home Affairs' Mike Modiba says the old IDs have to be handed back to ensure people don't have dual identity documents. - Sapa
