Children in Qunu, in the Eastern Cape, sang and danced when the televised memorial service for former president Nelson Mandela began on Tuesday.
There were loud cheers during the interfaith prayer. People were packed in a hall after a downpour disrupted arrangements for the screening to take place outside. Technicians were on hand to sort out any problems with the live streaming.
