Education Dept slams Hyde Park High─── 05:29 Tue, 08 Oct 2013

Johannesburg - The Department of Basic Education says the Hyde Park High School teacher, who was suspended and arrested for sending a 16-year-old pupil an explicit photograph of himself, should have been suspended immediately.
The man was only suspended eight days after the child's mother initially laid the complaint.
Questions are now being raised about whether negligence is to blame for the way the school's principal and district office officials handled the situation.
Earlier yesterday, Eyewitness News reported that the teacher was exposed after the boy’s mother stumbled upon the image on his Whatsapp.
She pretended to be her son during a 15-minute conversation with the teacher.
The education department’s David Silman says the investigation must expose those who failed to help the boy and his family.
Attempts to reach the principal were unsuccessful.
The teacher has been charged in connection with child pornography. He will return to court early next month.
