Police commissioner calls for calm following Daveyton police murder─── 08:25 Mon, 18 Mar 2013
Gauteng Police Commissioner Mzwandile Petros have called for calm following the killing of an East Rand metro police officer at the weekend.
He reminded communities to use the government and community structures if there are concerns and not to take the law in their own hands or resort to violence.
The official was allegedly assaulted by a businessman in Daveyton yesterday.
Police say the man hit the officer with the fist when the metro police officers were towing his caravan.
The officer landed with his head on the ground and died at the scene.
The suspect was allegedly operating his food stall in an area were he was not supposed to.
The man was arrested and charged with murder.
Daveyton was in the news earlier this month when police allegedly killed a taxi driver, Mico Macia, by dragging him behind a police van.
