One of South Africa’s most wanted cash-in-transit kingpins, Wellington “Bibi” Cenenda, has been captured in Bloemfontein.
The police said in a statement that Cenenda, who was wanted for his alleged involvement in almost a dozen of cash-in-transit heists, was arrested Thursday during a crime intelligence driven operation.
Hawks spokesperson, Hangwani Mulaudzi, says Cenenda is currently in custody in Mpumalanga after reportedly being on the run for almost two years.
He appeared briefly at the Delmas High Court and will be joining his other accomplices on August 20. The suspect was wanted by the Hawks for alleged murder, attempted murder, possession of firearm and ammunition, possession of explosives and possession of suspected stolen property.
Further investigations to link him to other cases continue. The Minister of Police, Minister Bheki Cele (MP) meanwhile welcomed the arrest.
