More than 1000 motorists passing through N1 | News Article

More than 1000 motorists are currently passing through on the N1.

Spokesperson for the Road Traffic Management Corporation, Simon Zwane, says the roads are extremely busy and people need to drive with caution and be alert at all times.

No accidents have been reported on the N1, but there has been an accident reported in Kwazulu-Natal, on a rural road, where 13 lives have been claimed in a collision.

Zwane says due to the heavy rain in Bloemfontein, motorists need to reduce their speed, wear their safety belts at all times and respect traffic officials.

He also says people need to make sure that their vehicles are roadworthy before hitting the roads.

Traffic officials will be in full force, and speeding and drunk n driving will not be tolerated.

Zwane says Traffic Officials are trying their best by doing their part to reduce the number of accidents on the roads and fatalities. He adds motorists need to be patient on the roads during this busy Easter period.

OFM News earlier reported that traffic has been flowing freely on the N3 this morning. Con Roux from the N3 Toll Concession says weather conditions along the road are good.

This comes after traffic flow was high yesterday as motorists were travelling to KwaZulu-Natal. Roux says despite the high volumes no serious accidents took place after a crash between two trucks early yesterday morning.

According to him the N3 was busy very early this morning, but he expects that traffic volumes are not going to increase during the day.

Meanwhile emergency personnel from various service are currently attending to several accidents on a wet N1 in the Free State. According to information a accident was reported on the N1 North bound just before the Brandfort turn off and about 3km from that scene there is another accident.

Reports indicate the vehicles involved slid off the highway seemingly because of the slippery wet road.  On the N1 South at the Nelson Mandela off ramp at Bloemfontein another accident was reported.  Emergency personnel are also attending to a serious accident about 10km from Dealesville.
