Samwu intervenes at North West Municipality─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 09:59 Thu, 30 Nov 2017
The South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) demand answers on the non-payment of third parties and workers’ salaries at Tswaing Municipality in the North West.
The Union’s Provincial Secretary, Vincent Diphoko, says they might soon down tools should the municipality fail to attend to these issues. He says the municipality has on several occasions failed to communicate with workers on late salary payment and other concerns. Diphoko says the union has engaged the municipality’s management, on this matter and several other issues including the lack of resources, but the problems at this municipality still continues.
Diphoko adds that they are to meet the municipality’s management and the Local Labour Forum (LLF) delegates today to discuss workers’ concerns.
He says although the non-payment of third parties and workers’ salaries will top the agenda, other issues to be discussed includes the lack of protective clothing for the past three years, the lack of tools of trade, acting on positions without proper remuneration, and outstanding overtime salary payments.
The municipal manager is yet to respond to OFM News’ enquiries.
