Mlamleli to set the record straight on workers’ demands | News Article

Bloemfontein - The Mangaung Metro Executive Mayor, Olly Mlamleli, is today expected to set the record straight on the issues raised by municipal workers who were on strike for nearly a month.

This comes soon after the municipality obtained a court order to force its employees to return to work. Workers have been on strike calling on the municipality to increase their salaries, among other demands. This is, however, in contrast to the municipality’s 2017/18 budget reduction. During the municipal budget speech last month, Mlamleli said the budget for salaries, wages and allowances will decrease from R1.74 billion to R 1.7 billion, representing a reduction of more than R44 million.

Mlamleli will brief the media at the President Hotel in Bloemfontein this morning. She is also expected to outline plans on how the municipality will address issues such as political interference in the administration of the municipality, nepotism, non-payment of workers’ pensions funds and medical aids.
