WATCH: Northern Cape and Mier community gearing up for Bloodhound─── 12:35 Wed, 30 Nov 2016
Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has released a video in celebration of less than a year to go before the Bloodhound land speed record attempt occurs.
They laud the Mier community for playing their part in the international project.
In a little less than a year, the Bloodhound team will be arriving in South Africa in their first attempt to break Andy Green’s current world land speed record on the only piece of earth that the Bloodhound SSC will ever race on.
This track has been prepared over the past seven years by the local community.
The anticipation of the local community is high, with everyone in the Northern Cape – from hotel managers to petrol attendants – asking just when the car will be coming for its first record attempt.
“Bloodhound brings life to an area that was lifeless before,” says Justice Bekebeke, Director General in the Premier’s office of the Northern Cape Provincial Government.
“This is one of the most poverty-stricken areas in the province, and actually in the country, and the Bloodhound project has brought a lot of economic opportunities to the people in the area.”
The Bloodhound project announced early in October that it would be coming out for its 1,287km/h record attempt in September/October next year.
