Macufe might need its own venue | News Article

Bloemfontein - Macufe is growing and might need its own dedicated Bloemfontein venue soon.

This is according to provincial Black Management Forum (BMF) chairperson, Kaiser Khoza.

He says the cultural festival, a flagship programme of the Free State provincial government, is soon going to outgrow its current venues.

Khoza was reacting to research commissioned by Free State Treasury that found that the festival’s indirect investment in the province is to the tune of R91 million. The biggest drawcards, the music concerts that ensure a revenue of more than R7 million in ticket sales, are taking place this week.

The provincial government’s budget for the festival is now well over R40 million.

Khoza says it may be time for Macufe to have its own dedicated venue.

"Any tourists that get in here will hire a car, sleep in a B&B, eat in a restaurant, buy clothing – every businessman is smiling during the Macufe period. And we may want to get a bigger venue going forward. We believe as it grows it might need a bigger venue because it's gaining momentum each and every year."
