University spokesperson, Louis Jacobs, says this can only become a reality when all involved are prepared to come to the table and discuss a way forward. 

This after a small group of students protested and disrupted activities on campus yesterday. They are dissatisfied with Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande's study fee recommendations. 

Jacobs says Mafikeng Campus Rector, Mashudu Davhana Maselesele, briefly met with members of the Student Representative Council (SRC) last night. The meeting was, however, disrupted by some members of political structures on campus. 

He says after the meeting was disrupted, members of the SRC met with some political structures late last night. The outcome of the meeting, which lasted until the early morning hours, is not known yet, says Jacobs. 

According to him, academic and administrative activities will continue as normal on the Mafikeng Campus today. The situation is closely being monitored. No disruptions were reported on the NWU's Potchefstroom and Vaal Triangle campuses. 

Meanwhile, the University of the Free State (UFS) announced yesterday that all three its campuses will remain closed until Friday. No academic or administrative services will be available. Classes will only resume next week Monday.
