CUT Vice-Chancellor resigns─── EARL COETZEE 11:08 Fri, 01 Jul 2016
Bloemfontein - Central University of Technology Vice-Chancellor, Professor Thandwa Mthembu, has resigned.
Mthembu has been a controversial figure since his appointment in 2007.
A letter written to Higher Education Minister, Blade Nzimande, in 2011 accused Mthembu of maladministration, financial mismanagement and victimisation of staff.
The letter triggered a row between the university and Nzimande when the minister, acting on the recommendations of an assessor, attempted to place the institution under administration.
The university council blocked Nzimande's attempt and won a court battle against the minister who attempted to secure an order compelling the university to appoint an administrator to take over the running of the institution.
The CUT has confirmed the resignation, saying they will comment later.
